B.C. FORESTS
A Global Leader in Sustainable Forest Management
A 2020 peer-reviewed study by the University of British Columbia evaluated global forest management practices, naming British Columbia and Canada overall as leaders in forest laws, planning systems, and community involvement. Beyond strong government regulations, many local forestry companies also seek independent certification for added accountability.
Sustainable forest management in British Columbia balances current needs with long-term forest health. Responsible practices protect wildlife, water, and biodiversity while supporting jobs and communities. These efforts include tree planting, fire risk reduction, natural regeneration, and respect for Indigenous and local rights, which helps forests combat climate change and preserve their natural beauty.

Rigorous Forest Practices in British Columbia
Canada, including British Columbia, is globally recognized for strict, science-backed forest management. Annual logging is limited, and harvested sites must quickly return to their local ecosystem.
In addition to natural regeneration, B.C.’s forests are manually replanted using a mixture of native species representative of and appropriate to each unique ecosystem. Advanced technologies like drones and LiDAR help monitor and plan forest use. Independent certifications provide extra assurance that the region’s forestry meets global sustainability standards.
SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY
Recognized for some of the world’s most rigorous forest practices, British Columbia has a long-standing commitment to sustainable and responsible forestry. A focus on biodiversity and stewardship ensures long-term, renewable wood resources for future generations.

CERTIFIED FORESTS OF
BRITISH COLUMBIA AND CANADA
Forest certification is a voluntary process conducted by independent third parties. It verifies that a company’s forest management is sustainable and adheres to rigorous environmental standards.
Globally, these certification programs are endorsed and overseen by two leading independent non-profit organizations: PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).
WHY DOES CERTIFICATION MATTER?
Third-party forest certification helps demonstrate that wood products originate from responsibly managed forests and verified supply chains, providing confidence in sustainable forest management and responsible sourcing practices.
